A Letter to You

Voice of the Martyrs recently sent a letter from a persecuted person written to the church at large.  Here is an excerpt:
Dear brother and sister,

Warm greetings.  I really thank God for you.

…Now violence has pushed the host people to flee for their lives.  Many are displaced internally and others are external refugees living in humiliating circumstances, deprived of shelter, clean water, power, food, and medical care…

The only good news is that the church is moving whole-heartedly to relieve the suffering and the Lord is opening hearts to the gospel…

While we can see the evil powers spreading a dark cloud over the country, closing the door for the light of hope, we still trust our all sovereign God.  We see “darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples but the Lord rises upon you and His glory appears over you.”  (Isaiah 60:2)

We deeply appreciate your prayers and support.  It’s a rare time when the church is feeling the true oneness of the body of Christ all over the globe.  For this, we thank the Lord, for it’s a great encouragement to us.
Your brother,

Brother, your letter is a great encouragement to me.  Know that we love you, we are praying for you, and telling your story.  I pray we will be of the same mind when we are called to make a stand!  Thank you for sharing your story with us.

A Personal Letter from Prison: Eritrea

eritrea

Open Doors recently posted this letter from an imprisoned pastor in Eritrea.  I hope it blesses you as it blesses me!   Here is an excerpt.

My dearest wife,

God, by His holy will, has prolonged my prison sentence.

The moment I entered my cell, one of the prisoners called me and said, ‘Pastor, come over here. Everyone in this cell are [unsaved]. You are much needed here.’…

My dear, the longer I stay in here, the more I love my Saviour… His grace is enabling me to overcome the coldness and the longing that I feel for you and for our children. …

My most respected wife, I love you more than I can say.  Please help the children understand that I am here as a prisoner of Christ for the greater cause of the Gospel.

Please pray for those imprisoned because of their religious and/or political beliefs.  Pray for their families, friends, and colleagues.  Pray that we will be as strong when our time comes.  Get ready!  Be strong and courageous.

Adopt a Terrorist

Terrorists persecute people, and Jesus said we are to love our enemies, we should bless those who curse us, do good to those who hate us, and pray for those who falsely accuse and persecute us.

Here is a website that can help you do just that!

I’ve frequently thought about what a great idea it would be to have a website where Christians could learn about specific terrorists in order to pray for them specifically, and here it is.  You can adopt a terrorist to pray for every day.  There are pictures, and a little information on each person.  The site includes a number of helpful pages, too, such as Ways to Pray, relevant Articles, and instructions on how to set up a Google Newsfeed to get up to date information on your person.  Now, this is a righteous, powerful way to fight terror, and help oppressed people!

I hope you’ll check into it!
