Hassan Abduraheem and Kuwa Shamal: Sudan

sudan

DECEMBER 19, 2016
Two Christian pastors have been arrested in Sudan–Reverends Hassan Abduraheem and Kuwa Shamal.  In November of 2015, the men attended a conference where Pastor Abduraheem was speaking.  He showed a picture of a young man who had been badly beaten, and explained that he was helping to pay for the man’s medical expenses.  The Sudanese government declared that anyone who helped this young man was violating national security, and the following month, in December 2015, the two pastors were arrested. Pastor Shamal was released for a short time in 2016, but was then re-arrested in May.  They are being held in horrible conditions in prison.  Both men have been charged with ” waging war against the state and espionage to agitating hatred between classes.”  They both face the death penalty for helping an injured man.

What you can do:

  • Pray for both pastors, their families, and their churches.
  • Pray for the people, government, and courts of Sudan.
  • Write to your congressional representatives about this situation.
  • Sign a petition asking for justice.

Father, thank You for the strength of these tow men as they face deplorable conditions in a Sudanese prison.  Give them the encouragement then need to praise You in this dark place, and let Your light shine brightly through them.  Turn this condition from a curse into a blessing, and fill them from top to bottom with Your glorious presence.  Protect their friends, family, and church members.  Bring light to the entire country of Sudan, Father.  I commit these men, and their country into Your strong hands.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Deborah: Nigeria

nigeria

One night, members of Boko Harem broke into Deborah’s house.  They demanded that her husband, a leader in the local church, deny Jesus.  He refused.  They shot him as Deborah watched.  Then they threatened to kill her two daughters, Bintu and Falamta, aged 9 and 11.  When the young girls refused to convert to Islam, Boko Harem soldiers abducted them.  Deborah has spent the last four years searching for her precious children.

  • Pray for the people and leaders of Nigeria.
  • Contribute or volunteer with organizations that stand with and support victims of persecution.

Father of All, I can’t even imagine what Deborah has been going through for the past four years.  Her family is in Your hands.  I ask You to comfort her, encourage her, and fill her heart and mind with the hope that comes from You.  Protect here daughters.  Give them wisdom to know what to do in their present situation.  Make Yourself REAL to them, so that they know that You love them, that You surround them, that You go before them and follow behind them.  Keep them next to Your heart and lead them to Your truth.  Strengthen Deborah.  Show yourself to the people who abducted her.  Change them and turn them around.  Give wisdom and guidance to the leaders of Nigeria as they try to cope with Boko Harem.  Show the Nigerian people how to guard against them, and stop their violent pillaging.   Let the people of Nigeria see Your great light, and know your furious love for them.  In Jesus’ name, amen.

A heart breaking story about the realities of life for poor rural Pakistanis!

The Human Lens

The current series on “Organ trafficking- Pakistan’s Kidney Bazaar” has highlighted the grave problem of the illegal trade of kidney transplants that continues to flourish in Pakistan, which officials believe is a result of the lack of implementation of the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissue Act (THOTA), 2010. In the third and final part, we have an interesting interview conversation with Pakistanis who have sold their kidneys.

Blasphemy Woes of Pakistani Minority Women

The Human Lens

The lines have finally been drawn. Today’s Pakistan is no more “women friendly” as it was in its past.  It’s true, things have really been going as the West would like them to, but it does not mean we are a dead nation with no conscience. The Pakistani women have yet again proved themselves to be resilient beyond what my mere words can express.

Inside the country, the local medias coverage of minority issues is now a daily feature for most of us. Not a day goes by, that some report sheds light over issues long forgotten or deliberately ignored. This is a story of a troubled land — “Pakistan.” It all began in August 1947, when Pakistan gained its independence as a Muslim country, but where its founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah said its citizens could practice all religions freely and peacefully. But stranger tides began to be explored, in…

Pakistanis Stuck in ASEAN Labor Trafficking Scams

Some thoughts on the slavery issues of our times–it’s a lot more prevalent than we may think!

The Human Lens

Pakistan_MalaysiaIn current scenario, the cases of sex trafficking get a lot of global attention and media coverage, whereas labor trafficking gets sidelined. Needless to say, labor trafficking is a huge phenomenon faced by the world.  While labor trafficking is not exactly a secret, it is very difficult to identify the persons who become the victims of labor trafficking scams. But if we look around, this is something we see “everywhere.”

Recently on a Dubai-Kuala Lumpur transit a group of closely attached young Pakistani men were seen at the airport lounge. The group constituted 12 men and it was apparent that it was their first ever time to sit on a plane. The most interesting thing to be noted was they were barely able to speak in Pakistan’s national language Urdu, and barely managed few liners in English. However they were all on their way to Malaysia holding valid work permits.
